Ohio House Passes Amanda Dean Law

(ONN) – The Ohio House of Representatives has passed the Amanda Dean Law.

It’s named for the 36-year-old mother of four who was killed by her boyfriend in Huron County in 2017.

Legislation was introduced in January, just weeks after Frederick Rear was sentenced to 14 years for involuntary manslaughter and gross abuse of a corpse.

This new legislation aims to increase penalties for anyone convicted of that gross abuse of a corpse charge.

Under current Ohio law, the charge is a fifth degree felony, which only carries a sentence of 6 to 12 months in prison.

If passed, penalties would increase across the board and in the most extreme cases could carry a possible sentence of two to eight years.

The law now goes to the Ohio Senate for a vote.

Dean’s body has never been found.
